How to Calculate Ceiling Paint

Painting a ceiling is trickier than painting walls. You need to account for higher absorption (especially on popcorn ceilings) and coverage.

Coverage Guidelines:

  • Standard Coverage: A gallon of paint typically covers 350-400 square feet per coat.
  • Primer: Essential for new drywall, popcorn ceilings, or covering stains. Covers slightly less area (300 sq ft/gal).
  • Wastage: Add 10-15% extra for splatter and absorption.

Our calculator estimates the total gallons needed based on standard coverage rates.
