How to Calculate Drywall Materials

Drywall ceilings require careful planning to minimize waste and ensure a smooth finish.

Key Materials:

  • Drywall Sheets: Typically 4x8 or 4x12 feet. Larger sheets mean fewer seams but are harder to lift.
  • Joint Compound (Mud): Used to fill seams and cover screw heads. Our calculator estimates the gallons required for a smooth finish.
  • Joint Tape: Reinforces the seams to prevent cracking.
  • Drywall Screws: Use 1-1/4" or 1-5/8" screws spaced every 12 inches for ceilings.

Always add 10-15% extra material for cuts, especially around lights, vents, or complex corners.
